UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN 4/28/25 The
Unemployment rate for March in Clay County was 4.6% down from 5.1% last month
and 5.5% a year ago. The
numbers translate into 5,340 employed, 39 more than last month, and 260
unemployed, which was down 23 from last month. Around
the area Effingham County has the lowest unemployment rate for March at 3% down
.8% from last month. The biggest decline in our area was in Fayette County
with a drop from 5.4% to 4.4%. The
county with the lowest rate in the state was Monroe County at 2.4% and the
county with the highest rate was Alexander at 6%. The
Illinois unemployment rate was down.1% from last month and is now at 5%. That
is .8% higher than the National Unemployment rate of 4.2%.
