DURBIN NOT RUNNING 4/24/25 US
Senator Dick Durbin announced Wednesday that he will not seek re-election in
2026. The
80-year-old Durbin is in his fifth term in the Senate after serving in the US
House from 1982 to 1996. Durbin serves as the minority whip in the
Senate. In
a statement announcing his decision, Durbin said, “The decision of whether to
run for re-election has not been easy. I truly love the job of being a
United States Senator but, in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the
torch. So, I am announcing that I will not be seeking re-election at the
end of my term.” Durbin
served as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the 117th and 118th
Congresses. He also served on the Senate Ag Committee.
