DURBIN NOT RUNNING

4/24/25

US Senator Dick Durbin announced Wednesday that he will not seek re-election in 2026.

The 80-year-old Durbin is in his fifth term in the Senate after serving in the US House from 1982 to 1996.  Durbin serves as the minority whip in the Senate.

In a statement announcing his decision, Durbin said, “The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy.  I truly love the job of being a United States Senator but, in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch.  So, I am announcing that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term.”

Durbin served as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the 117th and 118th Congresses. He also served on the Senate Ag Committee.
