MCWHORTER SENTENCING

Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip M. Givens announced that Mathew J. McWhorter, 34, of Flora, was sentenced to time in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Wednesday, in Clay County Circuit Court for the offense of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, a Class 3 Felony.

The charge alleged that on September 9, 2024, McWhorter knowingly possessed less than five grams of a substance containing methamphetamine.  McWhorter pled guilty to the offense on Wednesday, and was sentenced to 5 years to the Illinois Department of Corrections. McWhorter will have a 6-month period of Mandatory Supervised Release.

The investigation was conducted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office with cooperation from the Flora Police Department.  State’s Attorney Phillip Givens said: “We will continue to hold people accountable for their actions as we continue to work with our Law Enforcement Officers to keep our community safe from methamphetamine.”
