ISP VEHICLE THEFT PREVENTION 4/22/25 The
Illinois State Police (ISP) is ramping up its efforts to combat vehicle theft,
hijacking, and related violent crimes, thanks to significant grant funding from
the Illinois Secretary of State Illinois Vehicle Hijacking and Motor Vehicle
Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council. The
ISP was awarded a $10 million grant for the first fiscal year, with an
additional $677,000 grant announced in June 2024. These
funds are being utilized to enhance the ISP's missions, which have shown
promising results from January through March 2025. From
January through March 2025, ISP missions resulted in 243 Vehicles recovered, 16
Stolen vehicle arrests, 18 Hijacked vehicle arrests, and 7 firearms seized.
There were 39 missions targeting stolen or hijacked vehicles, 39 Air Operations
targeting stolen or hijacked vehicles, and 1,304 Forensic laboratory
assignments related to stolen or hijacked vehicles.
