CROP PROGRESS AND CONDITION

The USDA says Illinois farmers made significant planting progress last week.

There were 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 20th.  Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1% very short, 7% short, 72% adequate, and 20% surplus.  Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 13% short, 73% adequate, and 12% surplus.

Corn planted reached 7%, compared to the 5-year average of 11%.

Soybeans planted reached 10%, compared to the 5-year average of 7%.

Winter wheat headed reached 5%, compared to the 5-year average of 6%.  Winter wheat condition were rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 38% fair, 49% good, and 6% excellent.
